This is a slightly smaller bowl finished with "Hana-nuri," a technique unique to Kawatsura lacquerware, a nationally designated traditional craft. After the top coat is applied, it is carefully finished without polishing, which brings out the original beauty of the lacquer.
The more you use the lacquer which is uniquely formulated for hana-nuri, the deeper the luster becomes and the more it enhances the dishes and drinks on the table. Please enjoy your meals not only with your sense of taste, but also with your sense of touch and the beauty of lacquerware.
Lacquer ware is much lighter and gentler on the palate than ceramic or glass ware, and even if you pour something hot into it, the heat does not transfer to your hands and it does not get cold easily.
The back of the high base is smoothly curved to prevent water droplets from accumulating when drying the bowl after washing. This makes it easy to use for busy people who cannot immediately wipe it dry.
The high base is low and stable, making it safe for small children and the elderly. Another feature of these bowls is that they are easy to store since they do not appear tall when stacked. It is just the right size not only as a bowl for miso soup, but also for soupy simmered dishes.
