コーヒーの新しい淹れ方。急須で、お茶みたいなコーヒーを味わおう

Brewing coffee in a teapot is secretly popular!?

The first tools that come to mind when making coffee at home are probably the coffeemaker, hand drip, and French press. I almost always use a coffeemaker.

Recently, I wondered if it was possible to make coffee in a teapot. I looked into it.

Apparently, it has become secretly popular. We found new information about how to brew it and how it tastes compared to coffee brewed in other ways.

So I used a teapot at home and I tried it. Here are the results and the recommended teapot for brewing coffee.

What is the taste of coffee brewed in a teapot?

In a word, mellow!

This time, I used coffee beans with a slightly stronger bitterness, darker and more intense flavor, which I usually brew in a coffee maker.  When brewed in a teapot, the bitterness, astringency, and aroma were soft and light.

There is no acidity. But it is not thin. It was very different from my usual coffee. It felt more like tea. I also found that the flavor didn't change much after it cooled.

Let's brew coffee in a teapot!

The above impressions are just a comparison with the coffee brewed in the coffee maker that I always drink. There will be differences depending on the teapot you use, the amount and type of beans, etc. If you are interested, please try it!

If you are going to use a teapot for brewing coffee, we recommend that you use one with a tea strainer.  Takumi Japan, a Japanese traditional crafts website, also carries teapots with tea strainers.

How to brew coffee in a teapot and key points

①Pour boiling water into the teapot and cup to warm.

②Drain the water from the teapot and put 20g of coffee into a tea strainer.
※Coffee powder ground coarser than the mesh of a tea strainer is recommended.

③Pour 300ml of hot water to moisten all the coffee and wait for 1 minute.

④Pour in the remaining hot water and wait 30 seconds.

⑤Discard the hot water in the cup and pour the coffee from the teapot into the cup.

The key is to keep both the teapot and the cup warm. Also, use a tea strainer. The bottom of the teapot is powdery, so leave some of it in the teapot for pouring.

Please try "teapot coffee"!
