This is a Nezumi shino tea bowl. The unique mogusa clay of Mino ware is generously covered with feldspar glaze. When the clay is half-dried, a wooden spatula is used to scrape off the excess clay. In this process, the clay is scraped off to the very limit of the thickness of the work. Through this way, the vessel is finished to be light and easy to handle while having a stately appearance. By applying oniita mud underneath the glaze, a gradation of white and gray is created along with the shading of the glaze, and the burnt iron that appears in some areas becomes an accent in the scenery. The works are slowly fired in an old-style wood-fired kiln over a period of one week, and you can enjoy the varied expressions of each piece.
*Oniita: A mineral containing iron used in iron painting, decorative clay, iron glaze, and other ceramic decorations. This product is packaged in a paulownia box. It takes about two weeks from the time you place your order to the time of shipping.
