PROFILE

Born in 1979, Kotaro Ikura is a fifth-generation potter of the Yagyu ware kiln. After graduating from the Crafts Department of Osaka University of Arts in 2002, he was apprenticed to Tsunenobu Fujiwara, a prominent artist of white porcelain ceramics, and started making ceramic works in 2005. He currently creates bluish white porcelain, white porcelain and Yagyu ware.Ikura has an excellent reputation, particularly in bluish white porcelain, and holds exhibitions regularly at major art galleries in Japan.

Ikura won the highest award at the 61st Nara Prefecture Art Exhibition in 2010; prizes at the 41st Japan Traditional Arts and Crafts' Kinki Region Exhibition in 2011; the 9th International Ceramics Competition Mino Exhibition in 2011; the 58th and 60th Japan Traditional Kogei Exhibition in 2011 and 2013; and the 22nd Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition in 2013; and the Liberal Democratic Party President's Award at the 32nd Japan Sencha Crafts Exhibition in 2018.
