This small cup is lacquered with vermillion on the outside and gray on the inside. It is finished with "Hana-nuri," a technique unique to Kawatsura lacquerware, a nationally designated traditional craft, and the careful finishing without polishing after the top coat brings out the original beauty of the lacquer.
The more you use the lacquer which is uniquely formulated for hana-nuri, the deeper the luster becomes and the more it enhances the dishes and drinks on the table.
Lacquered vessels are much lighter than ceramics and glass ones, and they are gentle on the palate, and even if you pour hot ones, the heat is hard to transfer to your hands and it is hard to cool down, so even children and the elderly can use it with confidence.
