Tatsuzo Shimaoka島岡達三

1919～2007 Living National Treasure

After studying under Hamada Shoji, Shimaoka Tatsuzo built a kiln in Mashiko, where he created the Jomon Zogan technique. The powerful and beautiful artworks made with this technique have been highly regarded both in Japan and abroad, and in 1996, Shimaoka was designated a Living National Treasure.
