Jun Kiln is the name of a kiln located in Yu County, Henan Province, China, and originates from the fact that the whole area of Yu County was called Jun Province in the early Ming Dynasty. Jun ware is also used as a name for celadon porcelain that was fired with a thick layer of starchy celadon glaze there, and is especially famous for those from the Song dynasty. By reduction firing (firing with less oxygen), the small amount of iron contained in the starchy blue glaze produces a color that refracts light subtly, creating a beauty that can be compared to opal. The Shinemon kiln arranges this glaze with its own unique techniques to create a deep sea-like world view.
